It has been brought to our attention that there is someone on the Costa del Sol offering 'rental' bars which are basically bars that are for sale and unable to sell for some reason. This could easily be taken by your landlord as a SUB-LET.

We have put this matter to our company lawyer who has examined the procedure and has made it quite clear that this is in total breach of any leasehold agreement that bar owners may have with their landlords.

The system puts the owner of the bar in a very serious legal position, especially if something goes wrong with these so called 'managers'.

If the renters are described as 'managers' then the person who appears on the opening licence is responsible for their tax, social security and work contract. Employing staff without contacts in Spain attracts heavy fines.

We have experienced problems in selling bars that have 'managers'; they have put money into the bar and are not keen to have the bar sold from under their feet.

We strongly advise anyone considering this option to take legal advice before agreeing to anything such as this, either as a seller or a 'manager/renter'.The system puts the owner of the bar in a very serious legal position, especially if something goes wrong with these so called 'managers'.
